Fincantieri to Invest $100 Million in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at Shipyards
Fincantieri, one of the world's largest shipbuilding companies, has announced a planned investment of approximately $100 million to advance robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced automation systems across its global shipyards.
Global shipbuilding company Fincantieri has announced that it will invest approximately $100 million in robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced automation systems across its shipyards worldwide and its three facilities in Wisconsin, as part of the BOOST² program and its 2026-2030 industrial strategy.
Headquartered in Italy, Fincantieri announced in an October statement that it is expanding its BOOST² (Shipyard of the Future) program, which was launched three years ago to integrate new technologies into its shipbuilding operations. This investment forms part of the company's 2026-2030 industrial plan. More than 450 employees from 13 shipyards worldwide have participated in the program.
The company operates three facilities in Wisconsin: Marinette Marine, Bay Shipbuilding, and ACE Marine. Marinette Marine builds military vessels for the US Navy, Bay Shipbuilding performs commercial ship construction and repair, and ACE Marine manufactures aluminum vessels for both military and commercial purposes. The exact portion of the investment to be allocated to the Wisconsin facilities has not yet been disclosed.
The modernization program aims to combine artificial intelligence and robotics to increase production efficiency, workplace safety, and construction quality. The developed technologies include Physical Artificial Intelligence—which enables smart robotic systems to interact with their physical environments—collaborative robots, digital twin systems, 3D printing, and automated production equipment.
Fincantieri CEO and Managing Director Pierroberto Folgiero stated that the initiative aims to combine advanced technology with the experience of shipyard workers, expressing a desire to build the shipyard of the future where humans and smart technologies work side by side.
