Honolulu Civil Beat Announces Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy
Honolulu Civil Beat has published its first official policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools in its journalistic activities. The organization is adopting a cautious approach aimed at balancing technological efficiency with reader trust.
Honolulu Civil Beat has announced its first official policy regulating the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into its journalistic processes. The organization's Editor-in-Chief, Amy Pyle, stated that the new regulation aims to protect reader trust while leveraging technological capabilities.
The newly published policy limits the use of artificial intelligence tools to specific tasks. Accordingly, AI may be used for processes such as transcribing audio and video or scanning public data; however, these processes must undergo human oversight.
The organization's only currently public AI application, the 'Digital Democracy' platform, continues to operate as an interactive database that organizes public testimonies, campaign donations, and legislative voting records. Honolulu Civil Beat plans to keep its policy updated by closely monitoring technological developments.
