Hematology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Handan Çipil stated that complaints of fatigue lasting longer than six weeks and not resolved by resting may be underpinned by iron deficiency.

Stating that iron deficiency adversely affects oxygen transport in the body, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çipil emphasized that symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath, dizziness, and palpitations should not be ignored. The expert reminded that iron deficiency cannot be resolved solely by consuming spinach, and that foods such as lentils, chickpeas, dried beans, and soybeans are also rich sources of iron.

Touching upon the impact of dietary habits on iron absorption, Çipil pointed out that substances in black and green tea reduce absorption, and recommended consuming tea one or two hours after meals. Furthermore, she advised adding foods containing vitamin C to meals in order to increase iron absorption.
