Microsoft has announced a voluntary departure program for 60,000 employees, corresponding to approximately 25 to 27 percent of its global workforce. Covering eligible employees in the US, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom, this initiative was implemented as part of the company's heavy investments in artificial intelligence technologies and cost reduction strategy.

Having approximately 223,000 full-time employees as of the end of June, Microsoft aims with this program for employees to focus on priority business areas and evaluate new opportunities. Confirmed by the company's Chief People Officer Amy Coleman, the program covers personnel at the vice president level and below.

Microsoft continues to make major investments in data center infrastructure to support artificial intelligence capabilities. Industry estimates indicate that the company's annual spending in this area could exceed $700 billion. The company had previously carried out smaller-scale departure plans in May 2026 and layoffs in July 2026.
