Minister Yumaklı made statements regarding the fair and sustainable use of water resources, the humanitarian situation in Gaza, projects in the Gediz Basin, and COP31 to be held in Antalya.

Sustainable Use of Water Resources

Emphasizing that the legal and institutional dimensions of water management are also important, Yumaklı stated that existing water resources must be shared fairly, transparently, and sustainably among the needs of users, sectors, and ecosystems.

Stating that water is not merely a natural resource to be managed, Yumaklı pointed out that water is one of the fundamental elements of both food production and human life.

Access to Water and Food in Gaza

Expressing that access to water and food is of vital importance, especially during periods of crisis and conflict, Yumaklı drew attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Yumaklı stated, "We believe that food and water should under no circumstances be used as an instrument of pressure or punishment on civilians."

Stating that ensuring safe and uninterrupted access to these basic needs is a shared humanitarian responsibility, Yumaklı said that international cooperation needs to be strengthened.

International Cooperation in the Gediz Basin

Citing the Sustainable and Integrated Water Resources Management Project carried out by Turkey with FAO and the Global Environment Facility in the Gediz Basin as an example, Yumaklı noted that the sharing of experience in drought early warning systems and modern irrigation areas should be increased.

COP31 Preparations in Antalya

Reminding that Turkey will host the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change next month, Yumaklı stated that the relationship between water, food, and climate will hold a prominent place on the meeting's agenda.
