Russia bombards Kyiv with missiles hours after agreeing to resume talks with Ukraine

Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv shortly after deciding to resume trilateral negotiations with Ukraine following talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff. Carried out during the night hours and described as "for show," the attack resulted in at least two deaths and 22 injuries, including four children.

The targets of the attack included the southern bridge over the Dnipro River, residential buildings, energy infrastructure, an ambulance station, office buildings, and a clinic. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that three of the missiles used carried cluster munitions. A missile that hit the Pechersk district caused damage to historical structures, including a monastery.

Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to the Kremlin, had announced that Russia had agreed in principle to resume trilateral negotiations involving Russia, the US, and Ukraine after November 10. However, Zelensky stated that the nature of the attacks shows Russia is not serious about peace. Meanwhile, it was reported that about 100 Russian soldiers were killed and 30 were captured in clashes that took place in a tunnel in the Kupiansk region.
