Statement on Natural Gas and Electricity from Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Bayraktar
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that natural gas production in the Black Sea will increase with the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, targeting a daily output of 45 million cubic meters by 2028. Bayraktar stated that there is currently no planned price change for electricity and natural gas.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made statements regarding natural gas production in the Black Sea, second floating production platform projects, oil exploration activities, and the latest situation at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Bayraktar reported that there are no planned price changes for electricity and natural gas at this stage.
Black Sea Natural Gas Production and Osman Gazi Platform
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that natural gas production in the Black Sea will double with the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, reaching 20 million cubic meters per day. Stating that the platform, which is approximately the size of 3 football fields and as tall as a 40-story skyscraper, will process the gas offshore and pump it to Filyos 170 kilometers away, Bayraktar noted that the facility will realize a production of 10 million dollars per day at today's prices and 3.5-3.6 billion dollars annually starting from 2027. It was stated that the number of households served will increase from 4 million to 8 million and the facility will produce gas for 20 years.
Second Platform and 2028 Targets
Conveying that the manufacturing of the Second Floating Production Platform is ongoing and it is projected to be in Turkey in the first quarter of 2028, Bayraktar reported that an additional production of 25 million cubic meters will be realized with this platform. Thus, starting from 2028, total daily production is targeted to rise to 45 million cubic meters and its own gas to be used in 3 out of 4 households. On the other hand, it was noted that an oil-indicated drilling reaching a depth of 6,000 meters from the water surface is planned at the Akçabeyli well in the Western Black Sea.
Oil Production, Kirkuk Partnership, and Latest Situation in Akkuyu
Stating that with new discoveries in Adıyaman, existing production is planned to be increased by 50 percent to 15 thousand barrels per day, Bayraktar expressed that a daily production of 84 thousand barrels has been reached in Gabar and the potential is targeted to be raised above 100 thousand barrels. Noting that Turkish Petroleum has become a partner in the fields in Kirkuk and that the share will start to be received from 2027, the Minister reported that 1,090 separate tests have been carried out in the first reactor of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and it is targeted for the plant to start operating by loading fuel before the end of this year. Bayraktar stated that regarding electricity and natural gas tariffs, there are currently no planned price changes and developments are being monitored.
