TOKİ-Backed Urban Transformation Begins Around Collapsed Building in Maltepe
Following the incident where five people lost their lives, efforts have been accelerated to build safe housing in the risky area in cooperation with the Ministry and TOKİ.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has decided to launch a TOKİ-backed urban transformation project for Cevizli Neighborhood and its surroundings following the collapse in Maltepe that claimed 5 lives.
Ministry Officials Conducted On-Site Inspections in the Region
Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ömer Bulut, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and Head of Urban Transformation Hakkı Alp conducted inspections in Cevizli Neighborhood, Maltepe.
The delegation examined the current condition of other risky structures around the building that collapsed on October 8 and received detailed information from technical teams.
Meeting Held with Beneficiaries and Solution Proposals
Following the inspections, officials met with the beneficiaries at the Maltepe District Governorate, listening to the demands and expectations of the citizens and conveying the solution alternatives prepared by the ministry.
Among the three different solution proposals presented by the Ministry were the 'Half is on Us' support, a transformation model to be planned with TOKİ's assurance, and the opportunity to benefit from ready urban transformation housing.
Citizens' Demand and the TOKI Model
As a result of the consultations, the vast majority of the beneficiaries in the region expressed their opinion that the urban transformation works should be carried out by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ).
In line with this demand from the citizens, it was decided that a comprehensive process would be operated by TOKİ to renew the risky building stock in the region.
One-Year Emphasis from Minister Murat Kurum
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum shared an important schedule regarding the urban transformation process in a statement on his social media account.
Kurum stated that the demands of the citizens will be collected in the office to be opened by the Urban Transformation Presidency and that the safe housing to be built by TOKİ will be delivered within 1 year.
