2026 Mandatory Traffic Insurance Premiums and Risk Tiers Announced
According to data from the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center, mandatory traffic insurance premiums, risk tiers, and penalty amounts for 2026 have been reorganized.
According to data from the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center, mandatory traffic insurance premiums in Istanbul, Ankara, and İzmir have been updated based on risk tiers. With the new regulation, the premium difference between the highest-risk group and the group with the highest claim-free level has reached 6 times.
Premium Amounts Determined for Istanbul
In Istanbul, the mandatory traffic insurance premium for automobile owners from the fourth tier has been set at 19,405 liras.
In the city, the premium for an internal combustion vehicle owner in the zero tier, which is the highest-risk group, rose to 58,214 liras.
The premium for a driver in the eighth tier, which has the highest claim-free level, was announced as 9,702 liras.
Current Tariffs in Ankara and İzmir
In Ankara, the traffic insurance premium for a driver in the zero tier became 56,566 liras, and for a driver in the eighth tier, it became 9,428 liras.
In İzmir, the premiums for the same risk tiers are applied as 54,919 liras and 9,153 liras, respectively.
Insurance Fees for Commercial Taxis
New amounts have also been clarified for the traffic insurance premiums of commercial taxis on a metropolitan basis.
In Istanbul, the zero-tier premium for commercial taxis became 172,447 liras, while the amount in the eighth tier became 28,741 liras.
In Ankara, the highest amount was determined as 167,566 liras and the lowest amount as 27,928 liras.
High Prices in Bus Insurances
The mandatory traffic insurance fees for buses with 31 or more seats in Istanbul drew attention.
While the insurance for a bus in the zero tier rose to 423,661 liras, the eighth tier became 70,610 liras.
Penalties Applied for Uninsured Vehicles
As of 2026, the penalty for driving an uninsured vehicle is applied as 1,246 liras, and the vehicle is banned from traffic until the deficiency is resolved.
In the event of a traffic accident, since there is no policy, a penalty of 2,039 liras is levied, and the damage given to the other party is collected.
Delay Interests and Surcharge Rates
For those who do not renew their mandatory traffic insurance on time, a 5 percent surcharge is applied to the policy premium for every 30 days delayed, and this increase can go up to 50 percent.
The zero tier is accepted as the highest-risk driver group, and a 200 percent price hike is applied to policies belonging to this group.
