Access block on LGBT associations' accounts and Ankara-based investigation
As part of an investigation conducted in Istanbul, social media accounts and internet content of numerous LGBT associations were blocked, while 21 suspects were apprehended in Ankara-based simultaneous operations.
Following an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, access bans were imposed on the digital platform accounts and internet content of numerous LGBT associations. In a separate investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a total of 21 suspects were detained in an operation targeting Kaos GL executives.
Investigation in Istanbul and access blocks
Within the scope of the legal process conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, access bans were imposed on the digital platform accounts of many associations by the decision of the Istanbul 7th Criminal Judgeship of Peace.
List of associations facing access blocks
Among the civil society organizations processed in line with the court decision are non-governmental organizations such as LisagDER, SPoD, Lambda Istanbul, Hevi LGBTİ+, Positive Living Association, and Positive Trace Association.
Ankara-based obscenity investigation
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a separate investigation upon reports that obscene content accessible to children was being shared on the website and social media accounts of the Kaos GL association.
Suspects and detention operations
In operations carried out by the teams of the Ankara Provincial Directorate of Security, detention warrants were issued for a total of 26 suspects, including association and digital account managers as well as individuals determined to have committed crimes via the internet.
Scope of operations and apprehended individuals
As a result of simultaneous operations organized in the provinces of Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Mersin, Afyonkarahisar, and Eskisehir, a total of 21 suspects were apprehended, and efforts to capture the remaining 5 individuals are ongoing.
