Armed Attack During ID Check in Ankara's Pursaklar: One Police Officer Martyred

Police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu, who was critically wounded in an armed attack during an identity check at a checkpoint in Ankara's Pursaklar district, has been martyred, while the assailant attempted suicide.

Armed Attack at the Checkpoint

Police teams stopped a suspicious vehicle at the random checkpoint on Karacaören TOKİ road in Ankara's Pursaklar district. While identity checks of the individuals inside the vehicle were being conducted, a suspect sitting in the rear got out of the vehicle and opened fire with a gun.

Interventions at the Hospital

Police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu, who was critically injured as a result of the armed attack, was rushed to Pursaklar State Hospital by medical teams dispatched to the scene. Despite all interventions made there, Türkoğlu could not be saved and was martyred.

Statement on the Incident from the Governor's Office

Ankara Governor Yakup Canbolat stated in a press briefing in front of the hospital that there were three people in the vehicle stopped at around 23:25, and while the identity check of those in the front was being conducted, the person in the rear got out and fired two shots.

Status of the Suspects and the Perpetrator

According to the statement made by Governor Canbolat, the other two people in the vehicle who fled the scene were captured. It was reported that the perpetrator who fired at the police officer attempted suicide immediately after the incident and is in critical condition at the hospital.

Condolences from Ministers

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek published a condolence message on his social media account, wishing mercy from God to martyred police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu and extending his condolences to his family and the Police Department.
