In an armed attack that took place in the yard of Farabi Anatolian High School in Osmaniye, literature teacher Mehmet Bilgili lost his life as a result of gunfire opened by his nephew.

Feud Murder in the School Yard

In the incident that occurred at around 11:30 AM at Farabi Anatolian High School in Çardak village of Osmaniye central district, literature teacher Mehmet Bilgili was subjected to an armed attack.

A.E.B., who is stated to be a schizophrenia patient, came to the school yard to speak with his uncle Mehmet Bilgili, with whom he had a feud.

Medical Teams and Detention Process

Upon the escalation of the argument, A.E.B. shot his uncle Bilgili with an unlicensed pistol he had brought with him.

The heavily injured teacher, who was taken to the hospital by medical teams dispatched to the scene upon notification, could not be saved despite all interventions.

The suspect was captured shortly at the scene, detained, and taken to the gendarmerie command.

Statements from the Ministry and the Governor

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin announced that a deputy minister was sent to Osmaniye to monitor the process on-site and that an investigation had been launched.

Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti also stated that there was a prior feud between the attacker and the teacher, and that the judicial investigation is being meticulously pursued.

Suspension of Education and Support

In the statement made by the Ministry of National Education, the information was shared that the attack took place while students were in class.

It was announced that educational activities at Farabi Anatolian High School were suspended for two days, and psychosocial support teams started operating in the field.
