The University of North Texas has received a $20 million donation from Anuradha and Vikas Sinha to support the work of the newly established Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics.
Artificial Intelligence and Data Studies
The University of North Texas has secured significant financial support for its artificial intelligence and data studies. The $20 million funding provided by Anuradha and Vikas Sinha will be directed toward the activities of the newly established college.
According to the university's announcement, the new college will focus on the development, implementation, and responsible use of artificial intelligence, as well as intelligent systems and data analytics.
Academic Programs and Departments
The college is working in partnership with the university's provost's office to consolidate its academic programs under two main divisions focusing on applied intelligence, informatics, information science, and learning technologies.
Programs related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, advanced data analytics, health informatics, information science, library science, and learning technologies will be brought together under the institution.
New Institute and Research Activities
The university also plans to establish the Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to combine research and educational activities in the fields of artificial intelligence and analytics.
This new institute will work to support interdisciplinary research, shared infrastructure, externally funded research grants, and industry partnerships.
Endowed Funds
The $20 million donation will establish six endowed funds to support leadership, student scholarships, professorships, entrepreneurship and incubation activities, advanced research, and emerging technologies within the college.
It was noted that Vikas Sinha earned a Ph.D. in information science with a focus on data science from the university in 2023, and that the couple had previously made donations for the data science department and an innovation laboratory.
