AI Investments Increase Demand for Skilled Trades in America
A study reveals that data center and artificial intelligence investments across the US are generating heavy employment in fields such as construction, electrical work, and plumbing.
A study published by Affordable Contractors Insurance shows that massive investments in AI infrastructure in the US are significantly increasing the demand for skilled trades such as electricians, HVAC technicians, and construction crews.
The Impact of AI Infrastructure on Employment
The physical expansion of artificial intelligence technologies requires a vast workforce consisting of electricians, heating and ventilation technicians, plumbers, and construction crews, alongside software developers.
Washington State Ranks First
According to the report, which evaluated operational facilities, active construction projects, and hiring data across all states, Washington ranked first nationwide in infrastructure trade job availability per capita. Driven by the impact of cloud and AI operations near Seattle, the state recorded over 23,000 active positions and more than 1,000 newly opened jobs.
Developments in Virginia and Georgia
While Virginia ranked second overall, it continues to hold the largest data center volume in the country. Georgia secured third place with major investments in the Atlanta area, and the boom in the sector is expected to create numerous new positions.
Other Prominent States
Missouri and Utah rounded out the top five, with Missouri standing out due to strong growth around Kansas City. In terms of raw volume, Texas led in creating new jobs, while California reached the highest total volume of existing roles.
