A new class-action lawsuit was filed against Boston-based online gambling platform DraftKings on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Boston.

The lawsuit alleges that the company relied on systems utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to encourage gambling addiction for the sake of profit.

Customers Targeted with Artificial Intelligence

According to the allegations in the complaint, the company deployed artificial intelligence models to identify customers who are more prone to gambling more and losing money.

It is stated that through this technology, the platform attempted to make users spend more money via targeted promotions.

Plaintiff Loses Thousands of Dollars

A plaintiff named Daniel Vest from West Virginia stated that he lost thousands of dollars while gambling through the platform.

This lawsuit filed by Vest represents not only himself, but also all users who received similar targeted promotions.

Intense Promotional Messages

Plaintiff Daniel Vest stated that in the one-month period prior to September 26, he was sent approximately 70 messages by DraftKings, including emails, text messages, and in-app notifications.

Vest stated that through these messages and notifications, he was constantly encouraged to spend more money and was practically bombarded with promotions.
