Boston Logan International Airport has introduced new customer service representatives named 'Amelia' featuring AI-powered hologram technology to guide passengers throughout their travels.

New Assistants at the Airport

Passengers traveling through Boston Logan International Airport have begun encountering an innovative new customer service face powered by artificial intelligence technology.

Details of the Amelia Project

Eight AI-powered holograms named Amelia have been placed at different locations throughout the airport to answer passenger questions and help them find their way to gates, restaurants, baggage claim areas, and other locations.

Features and Capabilities

Named after Amelia Earhart, this special system can speak several different languages and is programmed to map thousands of different locations.

Mia Healy-Waldron, deputy director of airport customer service, stated that they are always looking for innovative ways to assist guests.

Step-by-Step Directions

The system can provide users with step-by-step directions and provides a QR code that passengers can scan to carry these directions with them throughout their journey at the airport.

Locations in Terminals

Hologram assistants are positioned in every terminal, with some located before security checkpoints and others located after security.

Expectations and Future Plans

Airport management expects the system to be used approximately 100,000 times within the first year.

Mia Healy-Waldron emphasized that Boston Logan currently has the largest deployment of this hologram AI technology among any airport.

The Name Behind the Technology

The technology behind Amelia was invented by David Nussbaum, the founder of Proto.

The primary goal at Logan Airport is to bolster the customer service team, with a second phase of the project planning to give Amelia enhanced conversational abilities.
