Optical and Infrared Scanning Technology
Manager James McLeary states that artificial intelligence can successfully identify different types of plastics through image analysis, alongside optical and infrared scanning methods.
High-Density Polyethylene Selection
This technology detects the composition of waste by analyzing its image, especially in the case of crushed or misshapen bottles, enabling the selection of high-density polyethylene bottles suitable for food-grade packaging.
Production and Processing Procedure
Receiving plastics pre-sorted by type and color, the Redcar facility performs final processing by shredding, washing, sorting, and then converting the materials into small plastic pellets.
Labor Force and Plant Safety
While a human workforce of around 200 continues to be employed at the facility, artificial intelligence frees workers from routine tasks, allowing them to monitor product quality and also contributing to site safety through camera surveillance systems.

Thanks to this efficient recycling process, it is stated that the processed materials are fully treated and made ready for reuse within two weeks at the latest.
