ICOM has launched the abstract submission process for the special issue of Museum International titled Artificial Intelligence in Museums.

The International Council of Museums invites academics and experts to submit papers for a special issue of Museum International focused on artificial intelligence, with a submission deadline of November 9, 2026.

Subject and Scope of the Special Issue

The special issue, numbered 315-316 of volume 79 of Museum International, will examine the role of artificial intelligence in museum activities.

The impacts of artificial intelligence technologies in areas such as collection management, conservation, and exhibition will be addressed.

Key Topics to Be Addressed

The opportunities presented by artificial intelligence applications in museums, along with the ethical and professional challenges they bring, will be evaluated.

Topics such as algorithmic bias, copyright, environmental sustainability, and digital heritage ethics will be opened for discussion.

Application Process and Conditions

Abstracts between 250 and 300 words prepared in English, French, or Spanish will be accepted.

Candidates are required to send their abstracts in Word format to publications@icom.museum.

Evaluation and Publication Schedule

All submitted proposals will be evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process by an expert panel.

The selected papers are planned to be published in December 2027 in cooperation with Taylor and Francis and Routledge.
