GE HealthCare launches AI-driven operations system

GE HealthCare announced a new AI-powered SaaS application designed to help healthcare systems cope with rising patient demands, staff shortages, and costs.

New AI-Powered Application

GE HealthCare introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered SaaS application developed to help healthcare organizations optimize their resources and expand care access. Dr. Taha Kass-Hout, the company's Chief Technology and Science Officer, stated that rising patient demands, staff shortages, and increasing costs are common challenges for their customers.

Anticipating Capacity Constraints

Named CareIntellect for Operations, the application can analyze patient- and operational-level data points such as bed availability and staffing to predict capacity constraints up to 72 hours in advance. The system uses GE HealthCare's proprietary models called Pressure Forecast and Estimated Day of Discharge.

Transition from Reactive Operations to a Proactive Model

The primary goal of the system was explained as helping healthcare systems transition from reactive operations to a more proactive model. Through this, resources such as beds, staff, imaging, and transfers can be coordinated more effectively.

Initial Deployment Sites Determined

According to the announcements, Honolulu-based Queen’s Health Systems and Durham, North Carolina-based Duke Health will be the first two clinical sites to implement the new tool.
