Nepal prepares to request millions of dollars from climate fund
Following floods on the Tibet border that resulted in the deaths and disappearances of thousands, Nepal will apply to a UN fund with a new scientific study proving the climate crisis.
Following the devastating floods on the Tibet border, Nepal has decided to request approximately 20 million dollars from a United Nations fund based on a new scientific report revealing the role of human-induced climate change in the disaster.
Dimensions of the Disaster and Casualties
Massive floods and landslides that occurred last month on the Nepal-Tibet border caused widespread destruction. According to official data, approximately 1,400 people lost their lives in the disaster, while 6,150 people remain missing.
Climate Change and Scientific Findings
A study prepared by the World Weather Attribution research group revealed that human-induced climate change played a clear role in the disaster. Experts stated that rising temperatures and melting glaciers triggered the crisis.
Evidence to be Submitted to the UN Fund
Nepal aims to request approximately 20 million dollars from the Loss and Damage Fund. Country officials state that the scientific report serves as the strongest evidence to be presented in the fund application.

While Nepali leaders state that the country needs approximately 5 billion dollars for its reconstruction, Prime Minister Balendra Shah is preparing to call for climate justice at the United Nations General Assembly.
