Google DeepMind has introduced a new artificial intelligence tool aimed at unlocking the secrets of the human genome and transforming the understanding of biology. Announced in a blog post published on Tuesday, this new platform aims to accelerate scientific research.

Nine Billion Potential DNA Changes

While the human genome contains approximately three billion base pairs, the number of potential single-letter substitutions in individual letters reaches nine billion. Atlas offers comprehensive predictions on how these variants might affect the body at the molecular level.

Variant Impact Scoring System

To help researchers select mutations to focus on out of billions of possibilities, a new scoring system called Variant Impact Score is also being introduced. Thanks to this system, molecular effects can be interpreted rapidly.

Expanded Scope and Future Plans

Atlas extends its predictions across the entire genome to cover large regions that do not directly encode proteins but control gene behavior. Researchers will be able to access this dataset via a web portal and cloud infrastructure.
