Huawei Technologies announced the Ascend 960 SuperPoD computing cluster and the updated UnifiedBus interconnect technology to advance its artificial intelligence systems despite US semiconductor restrictions.

New Technologies Unveiled in Shanghai

Huawei Technologies publicly announced the Ascend 960 SuperPoD computing cluster and the upgraded version of the UnifiedBus interconnect technology at the Huawei Connect 2026 conference held in Shanghai.

Optical Integration and Speed Increase

The company integrated a tightly packaged optical placement structure into the SuperPoD architecture for the first time, providing higher speeds and lower energy consumption.

Thanks to UnifiedBus technology and the Hi-ONE optical system, a single SuperPoD can connect up to 4,000 processors.

Large-Scale Artificial Intelligence Systems

In a paper published on the arXiv platform by Huawei researcher Liao Heng, it was stated that the company has built a single artificial intelligence computing system with 256,000 nodes.

This system operates as a single end-to-end machine using UnifiedBus and the Nested BP computing model.
