ICANN has begun revealing new top-level domain applications. Major artificial intelligence companies like Meta and OpenAI have requested attention-grabbing extensions.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is accepting new top-level domain applications for the first time in years. Applications by tech giants such as Meta and OpenAI for artificial intelligence-focused extensions have marked the process.

ICANN Application Process

Within the scope of the process restarted after years by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, it was announced that a total of 1,615 applications were received from 481 applicants.

According to the statement, the application process is still ongoing, no domain names will become official before next year, and the process continues to function.

Intense Interest in AI Extensions

While AI-related domain extensions have drawn great interest among companies, ten companies requested the agent extension.

In addition, seven companies applied for the agi extension, six for asi, four for intelligence, and two for superintelligence.

Company Preferences and Brand Applications

Meta applied for a total of 21 top-level domain names, including its brands such as facebook, instagram, and threads in the process.

OpenAI made 15 different domain name applications requesting chatgpt, codex, and openai extensions; furthermore, Bluesky requested bsky, and Anthropic requested anthropic and claude extensions.
