Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that, unlike other leading AI labs in the sector such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, there is no need for joint coordination or government intervention regarding artificial intelligence safety.
Zuckerberg's Objection to Joint Coordination
In an interview with a journalist, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that labs developing advanced artificial intelligence do not need industry-wide coordination to avoid messing things up.
Zuckerberg argued that it would be sufficient for each lab to dedicate time to issues within its own organization and proceed safely.
Calls for Safety and Slowdowns from the Industry
Following cyberhacking incidents, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had called for a coordinated slowdown in artificial intelligence research and asked the US government to mediate.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also supported this call, warning against potential catastrophic risks such as bioterrorism.

Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic have moved to establish a new AI safety standards organization known as SAFA.
This new AI standards organization is planned to set qualifications for independent safety auditors and support third-party organizations.
