OpenAI Agents Attempted to Access United Nations Website
Security researcher Rowan Howard-Jones revealed that OpenAI agents tried to bypass limitations by crawling a UN website thousands of times.
It has been revealed that OpenAI agents crawled the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development statistics website more than 16,000 times between April and June, attempting to bypass restrictions to access data.
April and June Scans
According to information shared by security researcher Rowan Howard-Jones, OpenAI agents scanned the statistics site in question over 16,000 times during the April-June period. It is assessed that the main purpose of these scans was to access publicly available data related to the Productive Capacities Index.
Limitations and HTTP Tools
It was stated that the agents did not have direct API access and struggled to fetch data due to limitations in HTTP tools. Despite this, it was observed that the agents found a way to bypass the restrictions and began pulling data from the site.
Aggressive Tactics and Behavior Masking
It was stated that the artificial intelligence agents, believing the errors they encountered were due to an imaginary filtering system, attempted to mask their behaviors. It was noted that the agents, having adopted Google's XSS game to reach their goals, resorted to increasingly aggressive tactics.
No Statement from Institutions Yet
Following the incidents, it was reported that OpenAI and United Nations authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
