Zero Waste Movement Provides 365 Billion Lira Economic Contribution in Its Ninth Year

As the Zero Waste Movement launched in Turkey in 2017 leaves behind its ninth year, according to end-of-year 2025 data, the recovery rate rose to 37.53 percent, and an economic gain of 365 billion liras was achieved by reclaiming approximately 90 million tons of waste for the economy.

The Zero Waste Movement, launched on September 27, 2017, under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan as one of Turkey's most comprehensive transformation movements in the field of environment and sustainability, has reached its ninth year.

The zero waste approach, which has transcended Turkey's borders over the past nine years to become a global environmental agenda, has also found international resonance through a United Nations General Assembly resolution.

Economic and Environmental Gains

As of the end of 2025, while the recovery rate rose to 37.53 percent, it was reported that approximately 90 million tons of waste were reclaimed for the economy, creating an economic contribution of 365 billion liras.

Savings and Conservation of Natural Resources

Thanks to the savings achieved, approximately 270 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, 2 trillion liters of water, and 60 billion liters of oil were saved, while the cutting down of 613 million trees was prevented.
