Penn State Launches Artificial Intelligence Research Competition
The Penn State Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence has announced a new competition rewarding the innovative use of generative artificial intelligence in academic studies.
Organized by the Penn State Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence, the Research-a-thon competition offers more than $10,000 in prizes to researchers advancing their academic projects with generative AI.
Purpose and Scope of the Competition
Researchers and collaborating teams within Penn State will be able to showcase innovative uses of generative artificial intelligence in academic research through this competition.
Application Process and Conditions
Participants must submit their applications through the relevant application form no later than December 1 at 11:59 PM.
Areas of Artificial Intelligence Usage
Applications must explain how artificial intelligence advanced the project during stages such as literature review, hypothesis generation, experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
Evaluation Criteria and Awards
Jury members will evaluate applications based on criteria such as innovation, originality, the importance of artificial intelligence's contribution, and its impact on research outcomes. The first-place prize has been set at $5,000.

This event marks the center's sixth competition examining the benefits and harms of generative artificial intelligence, following previous thematic competitions held in earlier series.
