Palo Alto-based startup ScrollEd, founded by Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff, has introduced an innovative mobile application that adapts traditional textbooks and complex text files into a vertical feed style similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels.
How the App Works
Users can upload their textbooks or dry PDF files to the app to get a short-form feed. Swiping up brings up a new topic, while swiping sideways allows users to dive deeper into the details of the current topic.
Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Quizzes
The content presented within the feed consists of video, audio, and text elements generated by artificial intelligence. At the end of each topic, there are also interactive quizzes to help users reinforce their knowledge.
Founding Story and Goals
The startup was launched this year as a result of the dissatisfaction the founders felt while mindlessly scrolling through social media before going to bed at night. The founders aim to move education into this medium by focusing on the younger generation's inclination toward vertical video feeds.
Business Model and Future Plans
The company follows a freemium model that includes paid subscriptions and enterprise licenses alongside the free consumer feed. A consumer launch, expansion of the content library, and corporate pilot programs are planned in the coming months.
