Turk Telekom has established the Turk Telekom R&D and Innovation Science Board to focus on advanced future technologies such as 6G, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and satellite communications.
Focusing on Future Technologies
The Turk Telekom R&D and Innovation Science Board has been established to focus on advanced technologies of the future, primarily 6G, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, satellite communications, and next-generation networks. The board aims to establish a permanent platform for cooperation between academia and the industry while increasing Turkey's national technological power and effectiveness on global standards.
Academic Knowledge and Field Experience
In his evaluation at the launch of the board, Turk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin stated that they are making the bridge with universities permanent by combining academic knowledge with the field experience of the telecommunications sector. Şahin noted that they have signed over 2,000 patent applications in the last three years, became the company with the highest number of patent applications in Turkey in 2024, and made 921 applications in 2025.
Expert Members of the Board
The board brought together six academics under the umbrella of Turk Telekom: Prof. Dr. Elif Uysal from Middle East Technical University, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Arslan from Istanbul Medipol University, Prof. Dr. Berk Canberk from Edinburgh Napier University and Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Dr. Resul Daş from Firat University, Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata from Istanbul Technical University, and Prof. Dr. Halim Yanıkömeroğlu from Carleton University.
Working Axes and Plaque Presentation
Carrying out its activities along four main axes, the board will focus on subjects such as next-generation networks, 6G, artificial intelligence-supported networks, and the talent ecosystem. Additionally, within the scope of the event, plaques were presented in four different categories to employees who stood out in in-house innovation and R&D studies.
