UNESCO Launches Third Edition of Digital Citizenship and Artificial Intelligence Course

UNESCO has launched the third edition of its training course focused on digital citizenship and artificial intelligence, incorporating Portuguese language support into the program for the first time.

Scope of the Course and Portuguese Support

UNESCO is expanding the scope of its initiative by launching a new Portuguese version alongside the existing English and Spanish options.

Regional Access and Inclusivity

This expansion facilitates access to tools and information for educators and stakeholders in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The addition of the Portuguese language is considered a fundamental step toward recognizing the region's linguistic diversity and ensuring an inclusive digital transformation.

High Participation and Completion Rates

In previous editions, over 33,000 registrations were recorded from more than 113 countries, with women accounting for 61 percent of these participants.

This distance learning program achieved a completion rate of over 34 percent, reflecting the engagement maintained by participants throughout the learning experience.

Content of the Training Program

Designed especially for teachers, educational teams, and social actors, the MOOC covers topics such as digital footprint, disinformation, and artificial intelligence ethics.

Five Thematic Module Structure

It consists of five different thematic modules, ranging from how algorithms affect daily decisions to the challenges brought by artificial intelligence to education.

Start Date and Certification Opportunity

Developed with the support of Microsoft and coordinated by the UNESCO Regional Office in Montevideo, the third edition will begin on October 12, 2026.

Participants who complete at least 80 percent of the content and assessments will be eligible to receive an official UNESCO certificate.
