The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement regarding the loss of life during the military exercise conducted by the Kazakh Naval Forces off the coast of Aktau in the Caspian Sea.
In the official statement, prayers were offered for the soldiers who lost their lives in the tragic incident, and condolences were conveyed to their families and the fraternal people of Kazakhstan.
Weather Conditions Led to the Disaster
According to information shared by the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, weather conditions in the region suddenly deteriorated and winds intensified while training and combat duties were being carried out.
It was announced to the public by official authorities that a total of 19 soldiers in the exercise area were swept into the sea due to severe adverse weather conditions.
Search Operations for Missing Soldiers
Following the incident, search and rescue operations were initiated, and it was reported that 3 soldiers were rescued alive, while initial assessments indicated the death toll reached 9 people.
In a subsequent update, the Ministry of Defense announced that the death toll had risen to 12, noting that all relevant units are continuing search and rescue efforts without interruption in the region to reach other missing soldiers.
