Ayvalık International Film Festival Starts on September 14
Organized in collaboration with the Seyir Association and Ayvalık Municipality, the festival will host film screenings as well as events on urban memory, ecology, and silent films.
The Ayvalık International Film Festival, organized by the Seyir Association in collaboration with Ayvalık Municipality, starts on September 14. In addition to film screenings, the festival will feature talks and events on topics such as urban memory, ecology, silent films, restoration processes, and middle-class crises.
Festival Begins and Events Are Free
Organized by the Seyir Association in cooperation with Ayvalık Municipality, the Ayvalık International Film Festival will bring together figures from various disciplines this year for film screenings as well as discussions on cinema, art, urban culture, and current issues. All talks held at ASKEV Sera and Fabrika Ayvalık throughout the festival will be free of charge.
Urban Memory and the Vural Cinema Project
The event program will kick off on September 15 at 16:00 at ASKEV Sera with a talk titled "Urban Memory." Within the scope of the project aimed at bringing a cinema hall back to Vural, past and architectural studies will be discussed.
Silent Film Selection and Live Music
The "Wonderful Flowers" selection, prepared in cooperation with the Netherlands Eye Filmmuseum, will be screened. Prior to the screening consisting of short silent films, the curator will give a talk accompanied by a DJ performance.
Eerie Istanbul and Restoration Process
On September 16, a different approach to the film Dracula in Istanbul will be presented, departing from horror settings. Following an explanation of the restoration process, the film will be screened for free.
Where Are the Middle Classes Headed? Talk
Feature-length domestic films shown at the festival will be addressed under the heading of middle-class crises this year. Representations will be discussed in a gathering moderated by Fatih Özgüven.
Talks on the Axis of Cinema and Ecology
The festival's September 18 program will feature discussions on raw material extraction and the impacts of digital communication under the heading "Gaiaporosis" along the axis of cinema and ecology.
Bulutsuzluk Özlemi Documentary and Concert
On the occasion of the screening of the You Have to Live! documentary, the band will give a special concert at Pür Cunda and meet with their fans.
Brave and New Short Film Gathering
In the final days of the festival, a gathering focusing on short film production will take place. Short film directors will discuss new narrative forms.
