BlackBox in Beyoğlu Opens Its Doors in the New Season with a Rich Culture and Arts Program
In its new season starting in October, BlackBox will bring art lovers together with prominent figures and talks from diverse disciplines such as painting, literature, opera, theater, and the history of Istanbul.
Operating in Beyoğlu, the culture and arts space BlackBox will welcome art lovers during its new season starting in October with a comprehensive program of seminars and talks ranging from urban culture to architecture, painting to opera, and theater.
Painting and Art History Talks
As part of the season's opening events, Prof. Dr. Gül İrepoğlu will deliver talks focusing on the new temporary exhibition of the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture, which she curated. The program will begin on October 10 with a session titled "Painters We Know: Speaking of the 1914 Generation…".
Art critic and writer Ayşegül Sönmez will explore the main movements in art history through their lesser-known aspects in the series "Between Movements and Currents". The first talk of the series will take place on October 11 under the title "Minimalism".
History of Istanbul and the Şakir Paşa Family
The first installment of the "Istanbul Conversations with Cengiz Özdemir" series, focusing on Istanbul's iconic landmarks, will be held on October 16. Prof. Dr. Hasan Fırat Diker, a member of the Hagia Sophia Scientific Board, will be the guest speaker at this event titled "The Archaeology of Hagia Sophia".
Journalist and writer Nilay Örnek will discuss the architectural structures that left a mark on the lives of the Şakir Paşa Family—which raised artists such as the Fisherman of Halicarnassus, Fahrünnisa Zeid, Aliye Berger, and Füreya Koral—at the "Every Hope Seeks a Partner" gathering on October 17.
Opera, Literature, and Theater Gatherings
As part of the program, the event "Our Life is Opera with Figen Ayhan," starting on October 18, will examine masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Richard Wagner through the theme of "Family Ties".
Moderated by Seray Şahinler, the first guest of the "Literature Route" on October 21 will be author Aylin Balboa, and Virginia Woolf's classic work "A Room of One's Own" will be discussed at the event.
Meanwhile, the series "Theater Memory with Bahar Çuhadar" will host actor and director Tansu Biçer on October 23. In addition to Biçer's stage journey, the talk will address his new play "Elisabeth Costello," set to premiere at the 30th Istanbul Theater Festival.
