"Coastal Memory" Exhibition Meets Art Lovers at Decollage Art Space
Works by nine artists who spent a collaborative production process on the shores of Şile are being exhibited at the new season opening of Decollage Art Space.
Bringing together new and previous works by nine artists who worked together for seven days on the Black Sea coast of Şile, the "Coastal Memory" exhibition has opened its doors at Decollage Art Space in Suadiye.
Scope and Opening Date of the Exhibition
Meeting art lovers as part of Decollage Art Space's new season opening, the "Coastal Memory" exhibition started on October 6 and can be visited until November 15. The venue's visiting hours are set between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and a cocktail reception was held at the opening.
Nine Artists Meeting in Şile
The exhibition features works by Zahit Büyükişleyen, Özlem Üner, Serap Atala, Atilla Atala, Devabil Kara, Veysel Günay, Fevzi Karakoç, Yalçın Gökçebağ, and Resul Artemür. The artists came together on the Black Sea coast of Şile for seven days within the framework of a residency program.
Background of the Production Process
The primary goal of the program was not to directly paint Şile landscapes or document the region. While the artists were not asked to produce nine different representations of Şile, the focus was instead placed on the impact of the changing environment and the shared living experience on their existing art practices.
Conceptual Foundations and Coastal Distance
One of the conceptual starting points of the exhibition is mathematician Lewis Fry Richardson's studies on measuring coastlines. The idea that the measured length of a coast changes depending on the scale used is linked to the concept of memory and the experience of space.
Visiting Information and Process
Not carrying a documentary character and focusing on the memory of the coast, the exhibition brings newly produced works side by side with the artists' past creations. The exhibition can be seen at the art space in Suadiye until November 15.
