Discovery of Wooden Piles During Haydarpaşa Station Site Restoration
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that 80 percent of the original wooden piles in the Haydarpaşa Station site restoration have disappeared.
During restoration and reinforcement works at the Haydarpaşa Station site, it was determined that 80 percent of approximately 1,000 wooden piles found in the original projects have disappeared over time.
Critical Findings Identified in the Foundation
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated in a social media post that critical findings regarding the foundations were reached during the restoration process at the Haydarpaşa Station site. GPR (ground-penetrating radar) examinations carried out over the original projects revealed that only 200 of the approximately 1,000 wooden piles were in place.
Ground Risks and Reinforcement Works
As a result of technical examinations, it was determined that approximately 80 percent of the wooden piles had disappeared over time, and a liquefaction risk was identified in the loose and water-saturated soil. Bored piles and injection applications were implemented against ground risks.
Work Schedule and Target Date
While the work schedule has been rearranged due to sensitive reinforcement applications, scientific analyses, and project revisions, the first phase of the historical structure is targeted for completion within 2027.
