Former Prison in Pertek Opened as Culture, Art and Memory House
Converted after three years of work, the former prison opened its doors with Kamil Fırat's exhibition and a documentary screening.
The long-unused former prison building in Pertek has been opened to art lovers under the name Pertek Culture, Art and Memory House after three years of meticulous work. The opening ceremony was held with meaningful events and a chain-opening ceremony performed by women.
Transformation of the Former Prison
The former prison building carrying the traces of the past in Pertek has been transformed into a meeting point for culture, society, and collective memory. Opening its doors as a result of three-year efforts, the center aims to preserve the district's cultural accumulation and contribute to regional development.
Women and the Opening of the Chain
One of the most meaningful moments of the opening was the cutting of the chain at the building's door by women. Once known for its locked doors, the structure welcomed its visitors this time as a free space for art, production, and shared memory.
Mulberry Trees and Social Memory
At the center of the project are the mulberry trees, which hold an important place in Pertek's production life. Kamil Fırat's exhibition, Mulberry and Its People, makes the labor of people producing mulberry goods in the region visible and immortalizes today's heroes.
Planned Sections and Library
Comprehensive restoration projects have been prepared for the center, which was opened in its current form. In addition to a memory section, a Pertek-themed library, a music room, and a film screening area, an art gallery is also planned to be established.
Ministry Support and Future Goals
Funding was requested from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to implement maintenance, repair, and application works. Continuing its search for sponsorships, the center aims to make a major contribution to the region's cultural tourism.
