Kurdish director Shemal Hussein Ali's documentary competes at Indian festival
The documentary 'Life After Freedom', which focuses on the struggle for life of Yazidi youth after ISIS, has been selected for the official competition section of the Ahmedabad International Film Festival.
Kurdish director Shemal Hussein Ali’s documentary film titled 'Life After Freedom', which tells the story of the life struggle of Yazidi youth who survived ISIS attacks, has been nominated for the official competition section of the Ahmedabad International Film Festival held in India.
A new step in the international arena
The 22-minute documentary film titled 'Life After Freedom', directed by Kurdish director Shemal Hussein Ali, had previously met with audiences in the United States. The production will now compete at one of India's prestigious events, the Ahmedabad International Film Festival.
The reconstruction process after ISIS
Director Shemal Hussein Ali emphasized that the documentary does not only tell a story of struggle for survival, but also conveys how Yazidi youth who escaped the clutches of ISIS rebuilt their future by marrying and starting families, as well as the obstacles they faced.
Festival schedule and awards ceremony
The Ahmedabad International Film Festival will open its doors to cinephiles on September 30. The winning films of the three-day organization will be announced at the closing and award ceremony to be held on October 2, 2026.
