Works by famous painters go up for auction in New York
Impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces held in a private collection for decades are awaiting buyers at Sotheby's in New York.
Twelve impressionist and post-impressionist works, including masterpieces by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cezanne, are going up for auction by Sotheby's in New York with an estimated total value of approximately 450 million dollars.

Twelve impressionist and post-impressionist works kept in a private collection for decades are being put up for sale with an estimated total value of approximately 450 million dollars. According to a statement by Sotheby's auction house, the works are expected to find new owners at the auction to be held in New York on November 18.
Values of the Paintings
Van Gogh's painting titled Blossoming Chestnut Trees is expected to go on sale with a value of 180 million dollars, and Cezanne's portrait of Harlequin with a value of 120 million dollars. The works, which have not been seen in public exhibitions for about 50 years, are being put up for sale by the children of an Argentine collector couple.
Characteristics of the Collection
Helena Newman, Head of Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern Art Department, compared the collection to a small-scale version of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, stating that she had not had the opportunity to work with such a comprehensive and high-quality collection throughout her career.
History of the Works
It was stated that Van Gogh's painting reflects the energy and vitality the artist felt after leaving the psychiatric hospital in May 1890. Cezanne's Harlequin portrait is known as one of four paintings in which the artist depicted his son in a jester costume.
Other Important Works
The collection also includes Paris landscapes by Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, a work by Edgar Degas on the subject of horse racing, and a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir depicting a boat trip, each valued at tens of millions of dollars.
