A losing week in the markets: Only foreign exchange and money markets gained
In a week where the stock market, gold, investment and pension funds lost value, the only instruments that provided returns to investors were foreign exchange and money market funds.
While the week of August 31 - September 4 ended with a general decline in the markets, the stock market, gold, and funds caused losses for investors. The only areas that generated gains during the week were recorded as foreign exchange and money market funds.
Weekly loss in Borsa Istanbul
Stocks traded on Borsa Istanbul experienced an average value loss of 4.30 percent on a weekly basis. After seeing a low of 13,876.66 points and a high of 14,662.89 points, the BIST 100 index finished the week behind the previous week's close.
Downward trend in gold prices
The gram sales price of 24-karat bullion gold traded in the Grand Bazaar decreased by 3.77 percent this week. While the sales price of Cumhuriyet gold fell by 3.78 percent, the sales price of quarter gold decreased by 3.72 percent.
Investment and pension funds
While investment funds generally lost 1.31 percent, the decline in pension funds materialized as 1.31 percent. Among investment funds, the category that gained the most during this period was money market funds.
Changes in foreign exchange rates
The Euro/TRY exchange rate experienced a value gain of 0.05 percent throughout the week. The Dollar/TRY exchange rate gained 0.41 percent, following an upward trajectory and providing limited returns to investors.
