With the start of the 2026-2027 fishing season, the abundance of fish in the seas created a pleasing picture, yet price imbalances in the market caused distress for fishermen and prompted a call to suspend fishing temporarily.

Start of the Season and Fish Abundance

With the start of the 2026-2027 fishing season, fishermen set sail for the seas once again. The remarkably high volume of fish in the first days of the season brought smiles to the faces of fishermen.

Price Imbalance and Difficulties

Although the abundance of fish was welcome, the price imbalance in the market overshadowed the joy experienced by the sector. Fishermen began experiencing difficult days due to this situation.

Proposal to Suspend Fishing

Ahmet Mutlu, President of the Eastern Black Sea Fisheries Cooperatives Regional Union, proposed a short-term halt to fishing in order to rebalance the market.

The Price Gap in Between

Mutlu pointed out that fish face a serious price difference by the time they reach consumers from producers. He drew attention to the fact that fish sold by fishermen for 30-40 TL are retailed to citizens for 100-125 TL.
