While fishermen have completed all their preparations ahead of the upcoming new fishing season, bonito is expected to take its place on the stalls at very affordable prices this season due to the intense bonito activity in the Black Sea.

Season Preparations Completed

Following the fishing ban that started on April 15, fishermen carried out boat maintenance and net repairs over a period of approximately 4.5 months.

Mehmet Şahin Çakan, President of the Izmir Fishermen Businessmen Association, stated that all preparations have been completed and fishermen are fully ready for the new season.

Bonito Spawned in the Black Sea

It was observed that this year, thanks to climate conditions and rainfall, bonito in the Black Sea spawned to an incredible degree.

The survival of a large portion of the fry in the sea is evaluated as a sign that there will be an extraordinary abundance of bonito in the seas in the new season.

Fish Abundance in the Aegean Region

It is predicted that routine sardine, anchovy, chub mackerel, and horse mackerel fishing in the Aegean Region will also be bountiful this season.

Following the anchovy exports carried out last year, a high demand for bonito is expected this season both in domestic consumption and foreign trade.

What Will Bonito Prices Be

Thanks to the intense activity in the seas, it is anticipated that bonito weighing between 1 and 1.25 kilograms will be sold for between 50 and 60 TL each.

Mehmet Şahin Çakan expressed their confidence that bonito, which will be the sultan of the seas this season, will be offered to the public at affordable prices.
