Ankara Chamber of Industry President Seyit Ardıç evaluated the growth performance exhibited by the Turkish economy in the second quarter of 2026, drawing attention to the importance of the production economy despite global uncertainties and tight financing conditions.

Growth Figures and Evaluation

Ankara Chamber of Industry President Seyit Ardıç recalled that in the second quarter of the year, the Turkish economy grew by 2.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and by 1.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. Ardıç touched upon the importance of this growth despite uncertainties in the global economy, rising geopolitical risks, and tight financing conditions brought about by the disinflation process.

Annual Slowdown and Quarterly Momentum

Stating that growth stood at 4.7 percent in the same quarter of last year, Ardıç noted that while a clear slowdown is observed in the annual growth rate, the rise in quarter-on-quarter growth from 0.3 percent to 1.1 percent indicates that economic activity has periodically regained momentum.

Performance of the Industrial Sector

Emphasizing that it is valuable for the industry, which contracted by 0.8 percent in the first quarter of the year, to grow by 2.4 percent in the second quarter and return to positive territory, Ardıç stated that he finds the growth of industry critical during this period when the construction sector contracted by 1.9 percent and public final consumption by 1.8 percent.

Investments and Net External Demand Balance

Pointing out that growth in gross fixed capital formation declined to 0.6 percent in the second quarter, Ardıç underlined the importance of machinery, equipment, digitalization, and high-tech investments. He also evaluated the contraction in exports easing to 3.4 percent in the second quarter as positive in terms of the net external demand balance.
