August 2026 Inflation Rates and Civil Servant Raise Calculations

According to the August 2026 inflation figures shared by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the consumer price index increased by 1.84 percent on a monthly basis and 31.51 percent on an annual basis. In line with these announced rates, the initial projections for the January 2027 raise for civil servants and civil servant retirees have begun to become clear.

CPI and D-PPI Change Rates

According to the data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the consumer price index increased by 1.84 percent on a monthly basis in August, reaching 31.51 percent on an annual basis. An increase of 22.07 percent was recorded compared to December of the previous year, and 31.79 percent according to twelve-month averages. The Domestic Producer Price Index rose by 27.95 percent annually and 2.57 percent monthly.

Monthly and Annual Change in Expenditure Groups

When CPI expenditure groups were examined, the highest monthly increase was experienced in the education group at 8.62 percent. The increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages was 0.22 percent, while transportation saw an increase of 4.82 percent and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels saw an increase of 2.26 percent. The clothing and footwear group was the only main group whose prices declined on a monthly basis, with a decrease of 3.54 percent.

Civil Servant and Retiree Salary Estimates

With the August inflation data becoming clear, calculations regarding the January 2027 raise for civil servants and civil servant retirees were updated. Based on the Central Bank's year-end inflation forecast of 28 percent and the Market Participants Survey expectation of 29.43 percent, calculations projected that the lowest civil servant salary could be between 74,908 TL and 75,774 TL. The lowest civil servant retiree pension is estimated to be between 33,630 TL and 34,005 TL.
