Automotive Manufacturers Association Announces January-August Data
According to data shared by the Automotive Manufacturers Association, total production declined in the first 8 months of 2026, while an increase was recorded in the commercial vehicle group.
The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) shared the production, export, and market data for the January-August period of 2026 with the public. According to the announced figures, while total automotive production dropped by 7 percent in the first eight months of the year, an increase was observed in commercial vehicle production.
Change in Automotive Production
According to the Automotive Manufacturers Association data, total automotive production in the January-August period of 2026 declined by 7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 841,583 units. Automobile production decreased by 19 percent, coming in at 458,169 units. When tractor production is included, total production reached 854,860 units.
Production Increase in Commercial Vehicle Group
During the first eight months of the year, production in the commercial vehicle group increased by 12 percent compared to the same period last year. In this period, light commercial vehicle group production also rose by 12 percent, and heavy commercial vehicle group production rose by 7 percent. The capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry stood at an overall level of 59 percent.
Export Data and Sectoral Leadership
In the January-August period, automotive exports declined by 12 percent in terms of units, totaling 597,594 units. While automobile exports dropped by 28 percent, commercial vehicle exports increased by 9 percent. According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive exports rose by 2.5 percent to reach $27.2 billion, maintaining sectoral leadership.
Market and Sales Figures
In the first 8 months of 2026, the total market decreased by 12 percent, realizing at the level of 745,597 units. While the automobile market declined by 14 percent to 564,241 units, the domestic vehicle share in the light commercial vehicle market was recorded at 23 percent, and the domestic vehicle share in automobile sales was recorded at 35 percent.
