Banking Sector Total Deposits Increased in the Week of August 28
According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total deposits in the banking sector recorded a significant increase in the week of August 28.
According to weekly monetary and banking statistics released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total deposits in the banking sector increased by 70 billion 377 million 389 thousand liras in the week ending August 28.
Total Deposit Increase
Total deposits in the banking sector experienced a 0.21 percent increase in the week ending August 28 compared to the previous week.
With this increase, the total deposit amount of the sector reached from 33 trillion 649 billion 628 million 251 thousand liras to 33 trillion 720 billion 5 million 640 thousand liras.
Turkish Lira and Foreign Currency Deposits
During the same period, Turkish lira-denominated deposits in banks registered a 0.98 percent increase, reaching 18 trillion 486 billion 263 million 313 thousand liras.
Foreign currency-denominated deposits, on the other hand, decreased by 0.75 percent down to the level of 11 trillion 99 billion 173 million 146 thousand liras.
Foreign Currency Assets of Domestic Residents
Total foreign currency deposits held in banks materialized at the level of 271 billion 72 million dollars last week.
Of this amount, 231 billion 357 million dollars were accumulated in the accounts of domestic residents, and a decrease of 2 billion 715 million dollars was observed according to data adjusted for parity effects.
Status of Consumer Loans
Consumer loans of domestic residents in the banking sector increased by 1.87 percent last week, rising to 6 trillion 896 billion 133 million 834 thousand liras.
The distribution of these loans included housing, vehicle, personal loans, and individual credit cards.
Total Loan Volume Developments
The total loan volume of the banking sector, including the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, increased by 324 billion 482 million 783 thousand liras in the week ending August 28.
As a result of this increase, the total loan volume rose from 26 trillion 961 billion 648 million 784 thousand liras to 27 trillion 286 billion 131 million 567 thousand liras.
