Central Bank Total Reserves Rise to $188.4 Billion
According to weekly data announced, a notable rise in gold reserves pushed up the Central Bank's total reserve figures despite a decline in foreign exchange reserves.
According to weekly data released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total gross reserves reached 188 billion 449 million dollars in the week of August 21, increasing by 4 billion 949 million dollars compared to the previous week.
Notable Increase in Gold Reserves
The Central Bank's gold reserves recorded an increase of 5 billion 886 million dollars during the week in question. With this increase, the size of the gold reserves rose from 108 billion 334 million dollars to 114 billion 221 million dollars.
Latest Situation in Gross Foreign Exchange Reserves
Weekly money and banking statistics released as of August 21 showed that gross foreign exchange reserves decreased by 938 million dollars. Gross foreign exchange reserves, which stood at 75 billion 166 million dollars in the week of August 14, declined to 74 billion 228 million dollars.
Despite the partial decline in foreign exchange reserves, the strong increase in gold reserves pushed the Central Bank's total reserves up from 183 billion 500 million dollars to 188 billion 449 million dollars.
