Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced that the current account posted a surplus of $36 million in July, according to the balance of payments data released by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat shared the balance of payments data for July, announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, with the public. It was pointed out that Turkey's current account achieved a surplus of $36 million in July.

Annualized Current Deficit and Components

According to the released data, the annualized current account deficit stood at $40.7 billion. It was also noted that the annualized current account excluding gold and energy posted a surplus of $27.8 billion.

Services and Travel Revenues

It was stated that service exports increased by 3.2 percent on an annualized basis in July compared to the same period of the previous year. With this increase, total service exports reached $124.7 billion.

Tourism and Transportation Figures

It was reported that travel revenues reached a level of $60.3 billion during the relevant period on an annualized basis. Transportation revenues were recorded at $43.7 billion as of the same period.

Risks and Future Expectations

It was conveyed that price volatility driven by the re-escalation of geopolitical tensions poses a risk. It was stated that the resilient outlook in exports is projected to support current transactions for the remainder of the year.

Medium-Term Targets

It was noted that the ratio of the current account deficit to national income is expected to remain below historical averages. Within the scope of the Medium-Term Program (MTP), the current account deficit is targeted to be gradually reduced in the upcoming period.
