Europe at Risk Due to External Dependency in Artificial Intelligence Technology
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde stated that if the continent remains externally dependent on artificial intelligence technologies, it will face unprecedented risks.
Speaking in Vienna, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde emphasized that Europe is in danger of being left out due to its heavy import dependency on artificial intelligence technologies, primarily from the United States.
Artificial Intelligence and Economic Dependency
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde stated that Europe must reach a position where it produces its own artificial intelligence technology.
Noting that European companies are investing in artificial intelligence but that the technology is mostly imported from overseas, Lagarde pointed out that this situation leaves the continent vulnerable.
Potential Danger in Critical Sectors
It was stated that in the near future, artificial intelligence will take part in every aspect of life, ranging from border controls to tax inspections, and from the dispatch and management of trains to hospital and banking operations.
It was conveyed that in the event of disrupted access or changing conditions, this situation could simultaneously affect all sectors and create an unprecedented point of leverage among trade partners.
Trust Issues Among Allies
Although the European Union and the United States are close allies, it was expressed that various issues such as customs tariffs and political disputes have shaken trust.
It was emphasized that the only way to escape this situation is to build more European computing capacity.
Data Center Deficit and Financial Markets
It was stated that Europe lacks the data center capacity to meet its own demand and that this deficit could grow exponentially within a decade.
It was noted that US tech firms resorting to borrowing in Europe increases costs and that European funds heavily invest in US tech stocks.
