European Union countries reach agreement on 6.6 billion euro fund allocated for Ukraine
With the release of billions of euros in military aid resources that had been blocked for a long time, the way has been cleared for equipment and training support to be provided to Ukraine.
European Union member states have reached an agreement on releasing 6.6 billion euros allocated under the European Peace Facility to provide military support to Ukraine, which had been blocked for a long time.
Agreement Reached for the Release of the Fund
European Union member states have agreed on the conditions regarding the release of 6.6 billion euros allocated under the European Peace Facility to provide military support to Ukraine.
The resource in question had been blocked for a long time due to Hungary's veto and disagreements.
Allocation Plan of the Resource Announced
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas shared the details regarding the distribution of the 6.6 billion euro resource.
According to the announcement, 900 million euros of this resource have been allocated to the EU Military Assistance Mission in Ukraine.
Military Equipment Purchases Will Be Financed
A significant portion of the multibillion-euro fund will be used to finance new joint military equipment purchases.
Within this scope, 1 billion euros have been directly allocated to the procurement of new military equipment.
Reimbursements Will Be Made to Member States
It was stated that the remaining 4.7 billion euros will be transferred for the purpose of reimbursement to EU member states that previously provided military aid to Ukraine.
Some member states stated that they will redirect these reimbursements to be made to them back to Ukraine.
Way Cleared for Defense Support
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the agreement paves the way for providing support to defense in various areas ranging from military training to equipment procurement.
Von der Leyen reported that the resource will complement existing support packages and that the Union continues to work on new aid steps.
