Global electric vehicle sales increased for the sixth consecutive month in August, with the European market serving as the main driver of this growth.

According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence data, global electric vehicle sales increased by 2 percent year-on-year in August. With this increase, total sales rose to 1.83 million units.

First Eight Months of the Year

Considering the first eight months of the year, total electric vehicle sales worldwide reached 13.4 million units.

Rise in the European Market

Monthly sales in the European region increased by 36 percent to reach 380,000 units. The total growth rate in the region since the beginning of the year reached 29 percent.

China and North America

Sales in the Chinese market fell by 11 percent, partly due to the base effect created by last year's high figures. In North America, sales dropped by 33 percent following the removal of federal tax incentives.
